The label "Anbefalet af Dyrenes Beskyttelse", owned by Dyrenes Beskyttelse, has helped Danish consumers for over 30 years to find food produced at the highest level of animal welfare in the refrigerated section. The core idea of the label is that animals should have space, outdoor access and the opportunity to exhibit their natural behaviour.
Today, around 190 Danish farmers produce under the label. Additionally, there are also food products from several foreign animal welfare productions that you can only find in Salling Group's stores. Examples of these include Løgismose chicken from France as well as sheep and lamb from Chile. In our stores, you'll find many products within meat, poultry, milk and cheese that are recommended by Dyrenes Beskyttelse. Our buyers continually work on expanding the range of food produced with the highest animal welfare standards.
Fortunately, more labels have emerged over time. There's now also a government-controlled label called the Animal Welfare Label. The label can be found on meat and processed products from pigs, chickens, beef, veal and dairy.
You'll find the label, marked with a heart, in our refrigerated sections. Products can have up to three hearts, and even with just one heart, animal welfare surpasses Danish legislation. So, the more hearts, the higher the animal welfare. With 2 hearts, animals get even more space and bedding. Chickens can have access to outdoor areas, dairy cows walk on grass and piglets are weaned later.
